New Pokemon Movie to Introduce Hoopa this Year

The latest Pokemon movie will air on Cartoon Network later this year. It will premier in Japan on July 18, 2015. The Pokemon Company has not announced an exact release date for the movie.

Pokemon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages introduces a new legendary Pokemon named Hoopa. The genie Pokemon has the ability to create portals through which people and Pokemon can travel.

The trailer, seen below, shows legendary Pokemon from all six generations of Pokemon games appearing in one place to wreak havoc. Ash and Pikachu meet Hoopa, who can speak, unlike most other Pokemon. At the height of the trailer, Hoopa says, “I’ll stop them all!” and opens new portals. Then then legendary Pokemon appear to stand off against their adversaries.

Hoopa and the Clash of Ages is the 18th Pokemon movie, and the second installment in the XY series of Pokemon movies. The first, subtitled Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, debuted in North America last fall.

For those who play the Pokemon games, movies lie this often have events associated with them where Pokemon otherwise unobtainable can be found. In Japan, people who buy tickets to the movie in advance get a level 100 Arceus. And in Europe a Darkrai is given out. No event for North America has yet been announced.

There is still one more Pokemon that has not been officially revealed in the latest generation of Pokemon games. Hoopa was first found when people hacked copies of Pokemon X and Y to find code for legendary Pokemon called Hoopa, Diancie, and Volcanion. Like Hoopa, Diancie made its first appearance in a movie. But Nintendo has not yet acknowledged the existence of Volcanion.
