New Armored Core game details leak in alleged FromSoftware survey

The Armored Core series was once the cash cow for game developer FromSoftware, but since it stumbled upon the more critically and eventually commercially successful Souls games, the mech combat series has gone dormant. However, ResetEra user Red Liquorice has shared details and taken screen captures of an alleged FromSoftware survey that would reveal the existence of a new Armored Core game in development, and it even claims Souls series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has created the game’s sci-fi world. Since Miyazaki used to develop Armored Core, that would make sense.

Presuming this survey is legitimately from FromSoftware, the new Armored Core will be another third-person mech combat game with long-range gunplay and short-range blades slashing, and the emphasis on sophisticated mech customization will remain. However, the world will be “massive” across a “wide variety of maps,” and you will “feel the scale of the mecha universe” as you battle assorted strong enemies. There is also a story (that probably won’t matter) involving various entities battling for a dangerous, powerful substance called “Melange” on planet Bashtar. So basically, the series is sounding the same as ever, except bolstered by modern tech and hopefully a few quality-of-life improvements. That’s probably all Armored Core fans would want in a new game.

Red Liquorice claims to have seen some screenshots and footage of the game as well, but those were not shared online since they were watermarked. The user has never played the Armored Core series before and so couldn’t describe the new footage in how it compared to past games, but the user did describe the following:

The boss fight looked quite Soulsy – the long range gunfire reminded me of Virtua On, that’s my frame of reference… The player character in a white mech went in close to the bigger robot boss and fought with like an energy or laser sword, this looked Souls-style.

The field gameplay, the player in the same white mech seemed to be following a couple of other players in the distance (co-op?) and they were walking (flying close to the ground maybe) through a snowy area towards either a large wall or gate, this seemed Soulsy too, the vastness of the architecture, but it wasn’t a castle more like a worn down metal/stone wall or gate. It was quite short.

The new game has apparently not received its final name yet, but some sample names were provided that made use of names like Armored Core 6 or Armored Core VI with a subtitle attached.
