Netflix is no longer supported on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS

Netflix Nintendo 3DS Wii U discontinued but no Switch version

As of yesterday, June 30, Netflix is no longer supported on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. The highly popular streaming service was removed from the eShop for download back in December, but Netflix continued to support the app on those platforms. However, Nintendo has now announced the full discontinuation of the service on those platforms:

The Netflix app was removed from Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Family systems on Dec 31st, 2020 and discontinued on June 30th, 2021. Thank you for your support of these applications over the years.

Presumably not many Netflix subscribers used Wii U and Nintendo 3DS to watch their favorite programs and movies at this point, but it was nice to have the option. Unfortunately, Netflix still is not available on Nintendo Switch, though Hulu and YouTube are. That being said, Nintendo Switch is now four years old, and we are still missing a lot of features such as themes. Nintendo has also taken an unconventional approach to releasing older titles as well, abandoning the classic Virtual Console service in favor of Nintendo Switch Online. There is no predicting what Nintendo will do next, but there might be hope for apps such as Netflix becoming available on Switch, now that Wii U and 3DS are off the table.
