BioShock is a beloved franchise that is known for its immersive environments and story-telling. It’s the kind of game that Hollywood producers dream of adapting, but attempts in the past always fell apart. It looks like that’s finally about to change! Nearly 15 years after the first game launched, Netflix has officially announced that they’re making a BioShock movie!

Netflix announces a BioShock movie

In a series of tweets on the NetflixGeeked account, Netflix announced that they’re teaming up with 2K and Take-Two Interactive to create a BioShock movie. There are very few details available, but the announcement was tweeted alongside an image of the first game and the game’s famous catchphrase: Would you kindly?

Prior to this official reveal, Film Stories┬áleaked the existence of the Netflix BioShock movie last week. They discovered at that time that Netflix had filed trademarks for BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite, as well as Rapture in general. It’s possible that Netflix is gearing up for a whole series of BioShock movies, provided the first one is well-received.

It’s unclear at this time whether or not BioShock creator Ken Levine is attached to this project. It has been reported in the past that he was involved with previous attempts to adapt the game to film. This attempt at an adaptation was allegedly just weeks away from shooting, but there were disagreements over both the budget and the film’s rating. It’s unclear whether this new take on the movie will have the R rating that Levine wanted.
