Netflix is coming to E3 2019 to make video game announcements NX

Netflix will come to E3 2019 for a panel called “Bringing Your Favorite Shows to Life: Developing Netflix Originals into Video Games.” This news broke via the NX social channel, which exists to promote science fiction and fantasy content on Netflix.

The NX and E3 channels held a (blatantly PR) back-and-forth discussion about the upcoming expo on Twitter, with NX asking if they could get a panel at the show to show off some games. When E3 asked for a teaser of what to expect, NX responded with gifs of its upcoming Stranger Things 3: The Game, but also promised “definitely more to come!”

So basically, more video games based on Netflix properties are coming, and they might not all be small, budget fare. This isn’t unprecedented; Netflix has made it clear that it wants to provide more interactive experiences for its users. Along those lines, it has released interactive content on Netflix with Minecraft and original content like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which essentially turns TV into a choose-your-own-adventure story. (Although, Bandersnatch was full of “Nope, wrong decision, you’re dead” moments.)

Netflix has a wide catalogue of programming upon which to draw at this point though. They’re probably not going to make a game about On My Block (shucks!), but something like The Umbrella Academy or Bright seems pretty ripe for a video game adaptation. Actually, Bright as a fantasy GTA could be incredible if done right. Netflix also has Mark Millar’s Millerworld properties in its back pocket.

What would you like to see Netflix adapt into a video game? Death Note, perhaps? Ha ha ha, just kidding. Sometimes we like to joke around here.
