Oh yes, it’s happening! During today’s Nintendo Direct, it was revealed both EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings are hitting Switch Online later today. Both games are cult classics, and fans have been wanting them playable on Switch for quite some time.
RPG fans get a double dose of EarthBound today
For those not in the know, EarthBound Beginnings is a localized version of the original Famicom Mother game. It’s not as beloved as EarthBound, but it’s a nice title to try out if you want to know the origins of the series.
The Super NES classic EarthBound, however, needs no introduction. But I’m going to summarize it, anyway. Gamers will join Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo (snicker) on their quest to defeat the evil alien, Giygas. It’s a title with a lot of heart and is unlike any RPG of its kind.
Unfortunately, no news of a Mother 3 port was mentioned during the Direct. The GBA sequel has been requested for years, but still has not been localized. A true shame, as its reveal would have paired nicely with this announcement and set the internet ablaze.
Enthusiasts, will you be giving either of the EarthBound games a go through the Switch Online service? Let us know below.
