Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge trailer has arrived

animate film first trailer Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge

Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge was revealed to the world only a week and a half ago. It’s a new animated film from director Ethan Spaulding, who delivered Batman: Assault on Arkham and Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, and writer Jeremy Adams, who worked on Supernatural and Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans. IGN exclusively has now provided the first trailer for the film — which will be rated R — and you can have a look at it below.

If I’m being honest, I think Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge looks… meh? The art style looks like anything you can find on a television cartoon, and the story looks like a very by-the-numbers adaptation of the classic story that we’re extremely familiar with by now. At the very least, the trailer certainly shows off nothing to demonstrate how the animated film will be using its R rating. Granted, that’s definitely not to say the movie must be filled with violence and cursing in order to be worthwhile, but I would have liked the trailer to offer… some kind of new narrative beyond what we’ve seen already.

In fact, even though it’s called Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge, Scorpion barely features in the trailer. Who made this trailer?!

Anyway, I concede one glimpse is hardly enough to decide if a film will be good, so I’ll reserve my judgement. What do you make of this animated film so far?
