Monster Sanctuary brings Metroidvania and monster-catching to Switch in December

Monster Sanctuary

After a successful Kickstarter way back in 2018, Monster Sanctuary is almost ready for Switch. The game, built on a promising mix of monster catching and Metroidvania mechanics, will be out on the hybrid system on December 8. That’s according to a new trailer straight from Nintendo’s YouTube channel, which you can check out below.

We’ve been looking forward to Monster Sanctuary for a while, and it’s great that the game is finally almost here. RPGs can be a tough genre for even the biggest studios out there, so I’ll certainly be keeping my hype for the game in check for now, but it’s still impressive to see such an ambitious genre crossover make it from a Kickstarter idea to reality.

Monster Sanctuary is one of a few ambitious, Switch-bound attempts at the monster capture genre. It stands among titles like Kindred Fates, Temtem, and a few more. This influx of competition in a genre that has largely been dominated by a few major players up to this point will hopefully lead to some much-needed innovation.

Are you excited for Monster Sanctuary on Switch? Think it scratch some monster-catching itches that other popular, even flagship-level series can’t quite manage as of late?
