Publishers NIS America and developers FuRyu and Lancarse have announced a February 22, 2022 US release date for RPG Monark on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC, and it will arrive February 25 in Europe. Meanwhile, the game is about to launch in Japan, on October 14. Monark is about high schoolers and was developed by some former Shin Megami Tensei developers who got excited to make another game that plays in the vein of Shin Megami Tensei If…, and today Monark got an “Adversaries” trailer demonstrating the various characters and their English voice acting.
The premise of the game is that deadly “Mist” has surrounded Shin Mikado Academy, and you have to enter the “Daemon-filled” Otherworld, where you will “learn to harness your Authority of Vanity and conjure a battalion of Fiends, whose power comes from the Ego of their master.” Psychological tests will develop your Ego and strengthen your Fiends, which will be necessary to defeat the seven Pactbearers that are “corrupting the academy.” Meanwhile, combat encompasses a freeform tactical system where positioning matters.
Although Japan is about to start playing it, the Monark release date for the US and Europe isn’t unbearably far away. If anything, it’s good that there will be a buffer of a few months between this game and Atlus’s own Shin Megami Tensei V.
