Mini blur: Lego Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Set is real

Lego Sonic the Hedgehog

Video games and Lego are nothing new. I mean, on Halloween, the company announced a partnership with Nintendo to produce sets based on Luigi’s Mansion. But what about Nintendo’s former rival, Sega? It seemed the developer/publisher was going to allow Lego to create Sonic the Hedgehog toys based on a leak a few days ago. As it turns out, that news is very much real. A Lego Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone Set is set to release on January 1, 2022, for $69.99.

Lego Sonic is something I wish I had back in the ’90s

This wonderful set was created by the 24-year-old UK-based Lego enthusiast, Viv Grannell. They submitted their creation through the Lego Ideas platform, which reached the required 10,000 votes from users to be made into a real product.

Lego Designer Sam Johnson had this to say about the Sonic set:

Just about anyone who has enjoyed video games on any level in the last 30 years, knows and loves Sonic — and has probably sped through the unforgettable Green Hill Zone with him. We have designed this set to be just as colourful and fun as the in-game version of The Green Hill Zone, then filled it with lots of easter eggs and even prizes to help fans enjoy some of their most beloved gaming icons in a brand-new way.

In addition to that tidbit of information, Lego dropped some product specs:

  • Age – 18+

  • Model measures:

    • Height:  17cm/7”

    • Width: 36cm / 14”

    • Depth: 6cm / 2.5”

  • The latest LEGO x SEGA set, which features:

    • 5 minifigures, including a new version of Sonic and also Crab, Motobug, Dr. Eggman, and Phantom Ruby

    • 10 ring boxes

    • Modular build, which can be linked to other architecture sets

    • Interactive elements and easter eggs, such as:

    • A Technic lever on the spring module to launch Sonic and his friends into the air

    • Sit Dr Eggman inside the Egg Robot

    • Just like in the game – get a gem reward as you build the set

    • Super speed and shied TV screens also included

  • Price: $69.99 / £59.99 / €69.99

Wait, I can sit Eggman in the Egg Robot and launch all the figures into the air?! I need this set pronto!
