‘Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix’ announced for Switch

Following up on January’s release of Mercenaries Saga Chronicles, developer RideonJapan is creating a new standalone adventure involving the property.  On Monday, the game’s publisher CIRCLE Entertainment announced Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix for the Nintendo Switch.  Its reveal marks the start of what CIRCLE Entertainment described as “A month of reveals planned throughout July”.

In its press release, CIRCLE Entertainment said, “It is not an orthodox sequel, nor do players need to have played the original trilogy to enjoy the game”.   The publisher also mentioned Mercenaries Wings: The False Phoenix will have the same gameplay as its predecessors.  However, its story and worldview will be totally unique and different from them.

There is a common theme within the original trilogy.  The story follows different groups of mercenaries whose various jobs lead them through various types of political and social drama.  From finding a way to heal a poisoned prince, to fighting against a liberation army, and one group finds themselves caught in a neverending war.  It will be interesting to see how different the narrative(s) in the upcoming standalone are.

No release date has been given for The False Phoenix.  However, CIRCLE Entertainment did say it will be released before the end of the year.  If you are someone who wants to experience the trilogy beforehand, Chronicles is now 10% off in the Nintendo eShop.
