Chernin Entertainment has signed a non-exclusive first-look feature film-producing deal with Netflix, according to Deadline. (Thanks, Rockman Corner.) In layman’s terms, this means that, whenever the Chernin production company decides to develop a film, Netflix has the opportunity to acquire its production before anyone else. This production company is responsible for Hidden Figures, The Greatest Showman, and the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy — but more relevant to us, it is also the company producing a Mega Man movie for Capcom.
Mega Man movie on Netflix?
The Mega Man movie has been in the vague works since at least 2015, but its development at Chernin Entertainment in particular was reiterated last October. A year prior to that, it was said that Heroes star Masi Oka would produce the film while Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman of Paranormal Activity 3 and 4 were attached to write and direct. Seemingly no updates on their involvement have come since then though. However, Mattson Tomlin, the writer of the upcoming The Batman, was recently revealed to be writing the Mega Man movie script.
That’s pretty much all we know about the Mega Man movie at this time. While I would be pretty enthusiastic to see the Blue Bomber on the big screen, since I think he deserves that moment in the spotlight, a home on Netflix wouldn’t be out of place either. (And if you’re wondered where the image for this article came from, take a look at Maverick Hunter.)
Meanwhile, the Monster Hunter movie is tentatively scheduled to enter theaters this Sept. 4 from Sony Pictures, but since coronavirus has delayed a vast multitude of films, Monster Hunter could very well join that list.
