For Comic-Con@Home, Project Power directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman talked to IGN today about (shocker) Project Power, a Jamie Foxx superhero movie coming to Netflix in August. However, the conversation also briefly turned to the live-action Mega Man movie, which Joost and Schulman will also be directing for Chernin Entertainment and Capcom. The one pressing piece of information from that discussion is that Joost revealed, “I think we’re gonna have some big news about it soon.” He also added, “It’s a project very near and dear to our hearts, and we’re psyched.”
As previously noted, the script for the Mega Man movie comes from Mattson Tomlin, the writer of The Batman, and he also wrote the script for Project Power. We’ll see soon enough how his skills measure up for an action film.
We’ve been reporting on the Mega Man movie for a while now, and an announcement from 2018 stated that Masi Oka (Hiro from Heroes) would be producing the film. However, there has been no update on his involvement since then. There has been some speculation that this film could potentially go to Netflix though, due to a first-look agreement Chernin Entertainment has in place with the streamer.
The Mega Man movie isn’t the only Capcom movie in the works. Monster Hunter is coming too, but it got delayed to next year.
