Publisher Dotemu and developer Tribute Games have announced with a new trailer that Master Splinter is joining Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge as a playable character, in addition to adding PlayStation 4 and Xbox One to its launch platforms. The game was previously already announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, and it is planned to launch sometime in 2022. To describe the fighting style of Master Splinter in Shredder’s Revenge, Dotemu explained, “He dishes out particularly powerful attacks with his trusty staff and wide-reaching special ninja moves, bashing through groups of enemies as efficiently as the Turtles chowing down on a pizza.”
I could be wrong, but I can’t think of a single pixel art game right now that has a more enormous hype train behind it than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. It consciously brings back the style of both the iconic sidescrolling video games of the early ’90s and the cartoon of the late ’80s, but in addition to being The Ultimate Nostalgia Grab, it also just looks totally rad on its own merits. The art is beautiful, and the combat looks hectic in the right way. What more could we ask for (besides a release date)?
Stay tuned for playable turtles, April O’Neil, and Master Splinter in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC sometime later in 2022.
