Publisher Marvelous Europe and developer Primal Game Studio have announced that the dark fantasy action RPG sidescroller Mandragora is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Notably, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are not on the menu, so one might wonder if the Switch version is going to end up looking pretty rough. But it’s too early to worry about that. For now, we can just look at the really pretty and foreboding Mandragora official teaser trailer.
The game is actually more of a Metroidvania apparently, as it has an “interconnected world” with different exotic environments. The premise of the game is that monsters have basically taken over, and “Entropy” is corrupting the world. Not much more has been revealed about the story than that, but it sounds frankly pretty typical so far, even though Mandragora describes itself as “story-driven.” However, like the recently released Switch game Infernax, Mandragora will feature “harsh moral choices.”
Still, it could very well be that the gameplay ends up being the star of the show as usual, which is fine. You will play as “one of multiple unique classes and customize your character’s active skills through a deep and rewarding character development system,” and once you beat the game, there will be different New Game+ difficulty options to choose from.
Mandragora has no announced release window on Switch, PS5, XSX, and PC yet.
