Lofi Ping Pong bounces onto Switch tomorrow

Lofi Ping Pong - Switch

The Switch has quite a bit of sports titles already, but have you seen one that features ping pong? Okay, probably. But what about one that combines ping pong and lofi beats? That’s what I thought—you haven’t. That is, until today. Redblack Spade is releasing just such a title on the Switch eShop, aptly named Lofi Ping Pong.

Lofi Ping Pong puts an interesting spin on the sub-genre of ping pong games by combining the sport with that of rhythm-based mechanics. You don’t just play ping pong, but you do so to the beat of a lofi hip hop music.

The game has six different locations and several gameplay modifiers that spice up the gameplay by testing your rhythm skill. There’s even a story to experience here, which is neat.

But, you may be saying to yourself: “I know what ping pong is, but what on Earth is ‘lofi hip-hop’?” A justifiable question. Lofi hip-hop combines electronic tunes with soft, slow beats. Lofi is known for being “atmospheric”, meant to transport you to a more relaxed state due to the slower beats.

Lofi has taken off in recent years, even having its own little bit of lore with the now-famous “Lofi Girl” character; a staple of the community on YouTube. I found out about Lofi music about two years ago and I listen to it almost every day, especially when I’m writing articles like the one you’re reading right now. I never imagined someone using it in a game, especially one that’s about ping-pong matches out of all things.

We will be conducting a review for Lofi Ping Pong, so if you’re interested, you can check it out in just a matter of days. In the meantime, you can pick up the game for yourself on the Switch eShop as of December 8, 2020 for $4.99.
