Littlewood launches on Switch this month, delivering chill Animal Crossing / Dark Cloud vibes

Littlewood Nintendo Switch release date Sean Young Animal Crossing Dark Cloud RuneScape Final Fantasy IX card game

At long, long last, solo developer Sean Young is releasing Littlewood on Nintendo Switch on Feb. 25, with preorders going live on Feb. 18. In December, Young said the game would release in early 2021 — and sure enough, here we are. Granted, Littlewood was originally supposed to see release on Switch in February or March 2020, but the year-long delay is surely to the game’s benefit, now that it won’t have to compete directly with the juggernaut that is Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

As we reported in our in-depth interview with Sean Young in December 2019, Littlewood combines assorted elements of Animal CrossingDark Cloud, and RuneScape to create a serene town-building experience. An adorable and bright pixel art style really brings the whole experience together too, instantly inviting players into its cozy world. Even the premise of Littlewood is inherently chill, as the game begins after your hero has already saved the world from the Dark Wizard. The catch is that you’ve mysteriously lost your memory of what happened, so now you’re trying to rebuild your memories while you rebuild the world.

And if all that’s not enough, Littlewood also has an in-game card game inspired by Final Fantasy IX‘s Tetra Master. There’s going to be a lot of content in Littlewood when it releases on Switch in three weeks!

Meanwhile, Young has already moved on to his next project, a game that takes place in the same universe as Littlewood but plays more like Pokémon:
