Link is Still Right-Handed in Zelda: Breath of the Wild; Here’s Why

Nintendo formally revealed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild during a special livestream for E3 2016. Quite a lot of footage has been shown off, highlighting the dozens of new mechanics that the new game has to offer.

One of the small, yet still very interesting tidbits that were shown is that Link is still right-handed. Up until the Wii version of Twilight Princess, Link has always been left-handed. This was changed in Twilight Princess due to the use of motion controls; seeing that most people are right-handed, the subtle change made sense. This version of Link was re-introduced again in Skyward Sword for the same reason.

Seeing that the Breath of Fire does not feature motion-controlled sword-play, it’s interesting that this detail has been brought back. Aonuma has explained the reason behind it:

“Link is right-handed because you initiate attacks with your right hand on the GamePad.”
