After multiple delays, the new release date for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has been confirmed for April 5, 2022 in a new gameplay overview trailer. This highly anticipated Lego adaptation allows you to explore all nine Star Wars films, with over 300 different characters to take control of. Today’s gameplay overview trailer further demonstrates the Skywalker Saga‘s differences from past Lego Star Wars games. (It’s too bad that TT is apparently a deeply troubled developer though.)

At the beginning of your adventure, you will be able to choose which trilogy to tackle first. Obviously, the respective trilogies will begin at the first canonical entry in that timeline, so in this case, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom MenaceStar Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will be available to you. Interestingly, the episode select screen features a nifty Lego diorama for its respective film, such as the opening failed negotiations sequence from The Phantom Menace.

The gameplay in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has received significant changes since the previous Lego Star Wars games, with most of its elements either being retained or changed from the most recent entry, Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. For instance, there is now a robust cover system while shooting, in addition to being able to counter incoming enemy attacks when in close range. Additionally, all enemies have health bars now, which has started to become a more common thing with games these days in general.

It wouldn’t be Star Wars without the Force, so you will be taking advantage of these powers as well. In The Skywalker Saga, not only will you be able to attack enemies or lift objects with the Force, but you will also be able to influence the actions of others. This presents you with opportunities to distract enemies, make someone panic, or even influence them to do something a little bit wacky. Fans may be excited to learn that mumbling from the original Lego Star Wars game has returned an option, meaning that cutscenes can play out without proper voice acting if desired. However, there is full voice acting set as a default option.
