Legendary is already working on a Detective Pikachu sequel

Detective Pikachu isn’t out until May, but that hasn’t stopped Legendary from jumpstarting a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has brought on Oren Uziel, known for The Cloverfield Paradox and 22 Jump Street, to write the sequel.

With such positive fan reception to the marketing thus far, it’s not surprising to see Legendary so confident in the project. Though, this early sign of confidence could be disastrous if the film opens to an underwhelming run at the box office. Pokemon is massive that just isn’t likely to happen. The franchise has taken over the mobile space, console gaming, manga, and television. It’s time for the series to truly shine on the silver screen.

Are you looking forward to Detective Pikachu? How do you feel about Legendary beginning work on a sequel before the first installment has even released? Let me know!

The film hits theaters on May 10.
