Kickstarter – MOTHER: The Original Arranged Soundtrack Album Campaign Launches

Shop to Shore PhonoCo. have launched a Kickstarter for a project called MOTHER: The Original Arranged Soundtrack Album. MOTHER’s soundtrack proved as equally as popular as the original NES game in Japan but until this project reaches its funding goal, it has never been released outside of Japan.

MOTHER is a series of role-playing games created by Shigesato Itoi. Mostly known for its unique humor, music and unconventional twist on the RPG genre, the series has earned a cult following worldwide. Originally released in 1989 for the NES in Japan, the game was a huge success. The title also released in North America but was never released in Europe until a Wii U Virtual Console release took place last year.

Composers Hirozaku “Hip” Tanaka (Super Mario Bros., Metroid) and Keiichi Suzuki (Tokyo Godfathers, Zatoichi: The Blind Swordsman), with help from the likes of avant-garde composer David Bedford and film composer Michael Nyman, recorded several tracks from the MOTHER soundtrack with full orchestration and, in several cases, English vocals from various European musicians, including Louis Philippe, Jeb Million, The St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir and a young unknown named Catherine Warwick.

The team are looking to raise $42,000 over the next month to make the soundtrack’s release a reality. It seems to be off to a flying start, but you can find out more and make your own pledge here.
