Katy Perry Pokémon 25th anniversary song & music video ‘Electric’ drops

Katy Perry Electric song music video Pokémon 25: The Album Pokémon 25th anniversary Universal Music Group Capitol Records

When Pokémon 25th anniversary festivities first began, The Pokémon Company revealed that Katy Perry would be a significant part of it. Now, the Katy Perry song and accompanying music video “Electric” has finally dropped, created for Pokémon 25: The Album, which Universal Music Group’s Capitol Records will release in fall 2021. Perry collaborated with The Monsters & Strangerz, Jon Bellion, and Bruce Wiegner to create the song.

As you’ll see for yourself, “Electric” features Katy Perry with a natural look, hanging out at the lighthouse and whatnot with Pikachu, as is her wont. In flashbacks, Pichu also shows up to cheer on and foster her career. (Okay, update the wiki articles to say that Pichu is a life coach.) Katy Perry provided a statement talking about what creating “Electric” meant to her for the Pokémon 25th anniversary.

“When I visited the Pokémon Café while touring Japan, I got so nostalgic,” said Perry. “It took me back to my junior high years. So when I got the call to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration alongside Post Malone and J Balvin, I was elated. The song’s themes – resilience, igniting your inner light – have guided my life and also parallel Pokémon’s story and characters. Pikachu is the evolved form of Pichu, so in the video, you see the younger version of me with Pichu and myself in the present day with Pikachu. We both evolve, yet retain a sense of playfulness.”

What do you think of the Katy Perry “Electric” video, and are you eager to purchase whatever Pokémon 25: The Album turns out to be this fall? If you missed it, there was also a digital Post Malone concert back in February.
