The Pokémon Company is teaming up with Kagawa Prefecture of Japan for a special “Slowpoke Paradise in Kagawa” project. The campaign has brought a Slowpoke ferry, Slowpoke tour busses, and Slowpoke hotel rooms to the Slowpoke-loving prefecture.
Okay, so you’re probably wondering how the heck Slowpoke, the Water/Psychic-type Dopey Pokémon, has anything to do with Kagawa Prefecture of Japan. The story to that goes back to 2018, when Slowpoke became something of an udon noodle ambassador of Kagawa Prefecture. Slowpoke’s name in Japanese is “Yadon,” which sounds a lot like the thick wheat flour noodles. Simple as that.
Since 2018, Kagawa Prefecture has done various Slowpoke-themed events in collaboration with The Pokémon Company, but this year’s campaign has gone the extra mile in the most Slowpoke way possible (in the best kind of way).
Here’s a look at all of the Slowpoke-themed attractions for Kagawa Prefecture in 2022:
The Slowpoke Ferry takes people on rides from Takamatsu to Tonosho ports. The interior has also been redesigned to feature a bunch of Slowpokes.
If you’re more of a travel-by-land kind of person, the Slowpoke buses would be more of your thing. The three Slowpoke shuttle buses run from the Takamatsu Airport and various other parts of Kagawa Prefecture.
Slowpoke Hotel Rooms
Lastly, we got a look at several Slowpoke-themed hotel rooms:
Takamatsu Tokyu REI Hotel
Kotohira Onsen Kotosankaku
Marugame Plaza Hotel
Shodoshima International Hotel
Check out a music video for the “Slowpoke Song” that features none other than Slowpoke across various parts of Kagawa Prefecture:
In case you missed it last year, a life-size Slowpoke plush was available to purchase for $450, but it looks like they’ve already found their way to a few hotel rooms.
