Perhaps some sad news for longtime Pokémon fans. In a recent interview that was posted to the official Pokémon website, longtime series director Junichi Masuda hinted that Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee could be the last time he directs a mainline Pokémon game.
It’s important to have the younger generation at GAME FREAK take over the development of Pokémon as a series. I do believe this will probably be, in terms of the main Pokémon RPGs, the last time that I work as the director.”
Masuda has been working for GAME FREAK since 1989 and has been directing Pokémon games since Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Needless to say, he has been the driving force behind the franchise for many years. The games will certainly have a different feel without his touch.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Masuda will return for one more mainline Pokémon game? I sure hope he has an input in the Generation 8 Pokémon game set to release next year. Be sure to let us know all your thoughts in the comments down below!
