Japan’s Nintendo DREAM readers pick their favorite Nintendo characters

In the latest issue of Japan publication Nintendo DREAM, readers of the magazine were invited to vote and decide who their favorite Nintendo characters are. The poll was limited to 10 spots, and the results are…unsurprising. Kirby takes the cake for Japan’s favorite Nintendo character –– at least, by Nintendo DREAM’s standards.

Here are the results:

  1. Kirby (Kirby) – 329pt
  2. Mario (Super Mario) – 120pt
  3. Link (The Legend of Zelda) – 106pt
  4. Pikachu (Pokémon)
  5. Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
  6. Waddle Dee (Kirby)
  7. Meta Knight (Kirby)
  8. Yoshi (Super Mario)
  9. Luigi (Super Mario)
  10. Sans (UNDERTALE)

Accumulated points were revealed for the top three places, and as you can see, Kirby won with a major lead. Nintendo’s mascot, Mario, isn’t as massive as he is in North America. Pikachu seems to have maintained his presence as Japan’s favorite Pokemon, despite Reddit’s recent endeavor into uncovering their favorites. Also, cooly, Sans of Undertale broke took the 10th slot.

Kirby’s win shouldn’t be all too surprising, considering the popularity of the character’s cute factor. Much like Hello Kitty and Sanrio’s product production, Kirby also has a plethora of merchandising options, like cute badges, kitchenware, plushies and Otamatones.
