Iwata-San: Hobonichi’s book on Satoru Iwata will be translated into English

Not too long ago, Japanese publishing company Hobonichi announced a tribute book to the late great Satoru Iwata. Titled Iwata-San, this compendium will include old sayings and writings of the former Nintendo President, and feature contributions by Hobonichi’s editor-in-chief (and creator of the MOTHER/Earthbound series) Shigesato Itoi, as well as Shigeru Miyamoto. In response to fan outcry, Hobonichi announced that they are working to distribute Iwata-San in various languages.

In an English post on their website, the publisher specified that there are no concrete plans as of yet. However, they are currently consulting with Tuttle-Mori Agency, the largest and oldest literary agency in Japan, on translating Iwata-San. Hobonichi certainly has high hopes for the book, as they wish to spread Iwata’s philosophy and wisdom to as many people as possible.

The company also put up an open invitation for publishers outside of Japan who would like to distribute Iwata-San. They also warn that those who violate copyright law by translating and pirating the book will face criminal charges.

Knowing that Iwata-San will likely be translated into English just about sealed it for me, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for this book once it hits store shelves. Are you looking to buy a copy of this tribute to the late Nintendo President? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
