Infinity, unreleased Game Boy Color RPG, will be finished & released physically

Infinity RPG Game Boy Color unreleased launch 2016 free publication 2021 Kickstarter Affinix Software Retro Modding Incube8 Games

There are entire websites dedicated to video games that were in development but that never saw the light of day for one reason or another. One of those unreleased, unfinished games is the Game Boy Color RPG Infinity, in development at Affinix Software between 1999 and 2001 but failing to find a publisher once the generational transition to Game Boy Advance began. The publication struggles ultimately led to Infinity being canceled in 2002 and the Affinix developers disbanding. However, for the 20th anniversary of the RPG that never was, some Affinix developers are partnering with Retro Modding and its subsidiary Incube8 Games to finish Infinity and physically release it for Game Boy Color. It will receive a digital ROM as well.

Infinity will head to Kickstarter in the future for funding, but details on that are unavailable for now. The game, in incomplete form, was actually already released free to the public back in 2016, if you’d like to take it for a test drive right now. But if that’s too much of a commitment, here is the premise of the game:

An ancient, nameless evil stirs beneath the earth, twisting the land and its people alike with its corrupting force. Two rival nations careen toward war, as a shadowy figure arms them both with unholy weapons of immense power. And a disgraced knight is called upon to overcome the centuries-old pain that divides these peoples, his own grief, and malevolent forces fanning the flames of hate. This epic tale frames a roleplaying game with a unique tactical battle system, a detailed world with over 50 explorable areas and more than 100 items, and beautiful 8-bit graphics — all to immerse you into the world of Infinity!

The new trailer from Affinix, Retro Modding, and Incube8 Games gives me some vibes of Shining Force and Crystalis, which is promising. Stay tuned for more details on the final, completed physical Game Boy Color release of Infinity.
