Pokémon Legends: Arceus boss battle guide with Hisuian Electrode capture battle

After calming Arcanine, Lord of the Isles, your journey in Pokémon Legends: Arceus will then take you to the Coronet Highlands to tackle Hisuian Electrode, Lord of the Hollow. Protected by the insufferable Warden Melli, Hisuian Electrode is the hardest encounter thus far. While I’d largely been able to get by just chucking Balms at the past Nobles, Electrode really taught me the value of using my Pokémon to assist. If you’re having trouble taking down this boss, this Pokémon Legends: Arceus boss battle guide with Hisuian Electrode will teach you everything you need to know.

How to battle the Hisuian Electrode boss in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Hisuian Electrode is a level 46 Electric / Grass type, meaning there are no types with a quadruple effectiveness against it. Your best choices offensively are to go with Fire, Ice, Poison, or Bug-type attacks. Meanwhile, Water, Electric, Grass, and Steel-type attacks have reduced effectiveness, so you’d be wise to avoid these. Defensively, your best options are to go with a Dragon or Grass type, as all of Electrode’s attacks have reduced effectiveness against these two, and they can also use moves that exploit Electrode’s weaknesses. It may also be tempting to bring a Ground Pokémon for the immunity to Electric attacks, but Electrode does have the Grass-type attack Energy Ball to counter that play.

The opening phase of the battle consists of Electrode shooting yellow electric balls at you. These orbs follow you around the arena, meaning you’ll want to keep moving to avoid them. As this is going on, Electrode will also summon Hisuian Voltorb to drop into the arena. These Voltorb explode after a second or two and hit anything in a given radius around them. The Voltorb come in waves, meaning most of this fight requires you to dodge both attacks at once. As such, you won’t have a lot of time to throw Balms at the boss, but if you utilize the dodge roll, you might be able to get enough distance to get one or two off per roll.

After a few rounds of attacking, Electrode will start gathering energy as it chases you around the arena. You should be able to see an area-of-effect circle on the ground surrounding it. Keep running away from Electrode and try you best to stay out of this circle. I found sticking to the edges of the arena seemed to help me. After a while, Electrode will stop and call down Thunder, hitting everything inside that circle. You have a small window to move out of this area once it stops, and doing so will allow you the opportunity to engage Electrode in battle. Defeating it will give you a brief window to do a lot of damage with the Balms, so be sure to take advantage of this.

The second phase of the fight triggers around the halfway mark. As with most of the other boss fights in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that we’ve detailed in our guide write-ups, the main difference here is that Hisuian Electrode gains a new attack. Now, Electrode can not only send electric orbs towards you, but Energy Balls as well. These green orbs also track you and are significantly faster than their yellow counterparts. If you thought finding time to throw balms was hard already, you’ll want to solely focus on dodging here.

One strategy that worked for me was leading the orb into the explosive Voltorb attacks. It seems like there’s a brief invincibility window after taking damage, so if you time things right, you can take damage from Explosion while getting hit by the orbs, removing them from play without taking even more damage. Alternatively, you can try just tanking the orbs, but doing so at the wrong time could open you to taking damage from an ill-placed Explosion.

This fight, more so than any of the others, is very much an endurance test. Success will come, but only if you don’t get greedy with it. Focus first on dodging and survival, and then utilize Electrode’s defenseless post-battle periods to deal your damage. Rinse and repeat, and you’ll calm the Hisuian Electrode in no time, granting you the Zap Plate and access to the next region, the Alabaster Icelands. And those are all the tips we have in this guide to defeat the Hisuian Electrode boss in Pokémon Legends: Arceus!
