Here’s your next chance to play the Pokémon Sword & Shield demo

Pokémon Sword and Shield release date

After debuting at E3 and then appearing at the Pokémon North America International Championships, the Pokémon Sword and Shield demo will be playable at Japan Expo in Paris, France, according to Serebii.

This year, Japan Expo runs from Thursday, July 4, up until Sunday, July 7. Taking place at the Parc des Expositions de Villepinte, Japan Expo is the largest convention of its kind outside of Japan. With nearly a quarter million attendees annually, the Pokémon Sword and Shield demo will surely have some eyes on it. The question remains, though, is that a good thing?

A dull demo

The demo takes you through Nessa’s water type gym. A simple, underwhelming look at what could very well be a great leap for the Pokémon franchise entirely. I went in depth on the topic in my preview, so I won’t reiterate those points here. It just doesn’t quite feel like this portion of the title is suited for the public eye. It showcases merely a few new elements the games have to offer. For fans on the Japan Expo show floor to truly get excited about the forthcoming Pokémon titles, a more explorative look at Sword and Shield might be necessary. That said, it does present a fun time with the new Dynamax battles.
