Here’s why Breath of the Wild’s sequel title is still a secret

Breath of the Wild sequel title

We finally got a glimpse of the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, and it was glorious. A new trailer was released, revealing that Link will be able to traverse through the skies, and use a variety of elemental abilities. However, at this moment in time, we still don’t know what the game is actually called. Nintendo has yet to reveal the game’s official title, but an IGN interview with Bill Trinen explains why this is the case.

As for why we’re holding back on the name, you’ll just have to stay tuned because, obviously, Zelda names are kind of important. Those subtitles… they start to give little bits of hints about maybe what’s going to happen

For now, Nintendo will be calling the game the sequel to Breath of the Wild, until an official title is announced. If we look back at previous Zelda games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the subtitle reveals some obvious story elements. The same can be said for any game in the franchise, as Nintendo does an excellent job when it comes to naming their games. At the end of the Direct, series producer Eiji Aonuma asked fans to wait a bit longer for more information. The sequel to Breath of the Wild is expected to launch sometime in 2022, and its title will be revealed closer to launch.
