Have you ever wondered what The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past would look like as a traditional RPG in the vein of Dragon Quest? No, you probably haven’t, and I sure didn’t either. Nevertheless, YouTube channel GamebillStudio has, and it has created a video of what such a game might look like. More specifically, graphic designer and video editor Nabil Ayari assembled this Link to the Past RPG, showcasing what the very beginning of the game would be like if you had to deal with random encounters.

Link starts the game with no sword of course, so during random battles, all he can do is get hit and run away. That, admittedly, would make for a pretty crappy video game if real. Still, it’s neat to watch the game screen shift to a first-person perspective like in Dragon Quest or most Shin Megami Tensei. When Link does acquire the sword, it becomes a more earnest Link to the Past RPG, though he’s quickly left with little HP.

The video admittedly goes a little off the rails at the end, as it skips to later in the game, when Link suddenly has Mario and, uh, Dragon Ball Z Saiyan powers. Okay, we can admit the execution could have used a little more thought. Nonetheless, it’s neat to gawk at The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past in RPG form. Let us know what you think of it.
