Haunted Chocolatier is the new game from the Stardew Valley creator

Haunted Chocolatier release early gameplay trailer Eric Barone ConcernedApe new Stardew Valley game ConcernedApe's

Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe (real name Eric Barone) has officially announced his new game, ConcernedApe’s Haunted Chocolatier, with an early gameplay trailer. A new website with a blog post also provides many thoughts from ConcernedApe on the title. The game goes beyond the humble and natural experience of Stardew Valley to provide more “fantastical possibilities,” including magical haunted ghost chocolate. ConcernedApe is not actually sure how to categorize Haunted Chocolatier in terms of game genre yet, as it is evolving as he develops it. However, the core gameplay loop involves “gathering ingredients, making chocolate, and running a chocolate shop,” and everything else is in flux. The game is currently only planned to be single-player though, and it has more of an action RPG slant than Stardew had.

Here are some more enigmatic words to describe the new game from the Stardew Valley creator:

Chocolate represents that which is delightful. The haunted castle represents the allure of the unknown. The ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important. However, don’t think for a moment that, because this game features ghosts in a haunted castle, it is an evil or negative game. On the contrary, I intend for this game to be positive, uplifting and life-affirming. However, if Stardew Valley mostly channeled the energy of the sun, Haunted Chocolatier channels the energy of the moon. Both are vital.

With the development of this new game, ConcernedApe says he feels “unleashed” to just follow his creativity, whereas with Stardew Valley he felt “constrained” by “established tradition.” Additionally, he adds the caveat that, although the game may appear like it’s in advanced development, “there is still a ton of stuff to do.” In other words, you should hold tight as far as a Haunted Chocolatier release date and announced platforms beyond PC go (though there are plans for it to come to “major platforms” eventually), and you should just enjoy the early gameplay trailer in the meantime. At least the Stardew Valley creator has made good on his promise to finally announce that new game like he said he would. Plus, this isn’t even the only game ConcernedApe is working on, but he does say Chocolatier is “the one that I believe I will finish first.”
