Bandai Namco has announced that the incomprehensibly named .hack//G.U. Last Recode is coming to Nintendo Switch globally with a release date of March 11, 2022 (or March 10, depending on your region). .hack//G.U. Last Recode is a compilation title containing high-definition remasters of PlayStation 2 games .hack//G.U. Vol. 1//Rebirth, Vol. 2//Reminisce, and Vol. 3//Redemption, plus new entry Vol. 4//Reconnection, and this collection first launched on PlayStation 4 and PC back in 2017. .hack coming to Nintendo Switch with G.U. Last Recode is bound to please the series’s hardcore fandom, but Bandai Namco is likely hoping to scrape up some new fans along the way as well.
While the original .hack//G.U. games received a largely decent-to-good critical reception, Last Recode provides “Enhanced battle balance and game pacing to provide an optimal experience,” and the critical reception to it seemed a bit warmer. All of the games are single-player action RPGs set in an imaginary virtual MMORPG, and protagonist Hateo is on the hunt for the dangerous player killer Tri-Edge.
The .hack franchise spans myriad anime, manga, and books at this point, but it hasn’t done much in video games lately, Switch or not. If you want the franchise to continue in a big way on consoles, you may want to pick up Last Recode on Switch upon its release date in March if you don’t already own it elsewhere.
