Codemasters’ GRID 2019 reboot announced, but not for Switch

Just today, Codemasters dropped a surprise announcement: GRID is coming back.

A reveal trailer was dropped via IGN, though it’s completely CGI. No gameplay details have been provided either. But, with E3 being just around the corner, it’s likely more information will be shared at that time.

The hit racing simulator has not received a new entry since GRID Autosport which released at the tail-end of the last generation all the way back in 2014 on PC, PS3 and 360. This new entry is a reboot, hence why it bears the name of the original game. It will be launching on September 13, 2019, for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch, at least as of right now, is not in the line-up.

Taking second place

Just a few months prior to the release of the new GRID, a port of the aforementioned GRID Autosport will be drifting its way onto the Switch sometime in the summer (between June and August). So, it’s a little disheartening that the new title isn’t also making it’s way to the system. But, we’ve seen this situation happen before where a game is announced initially for the other systems, and then a Switch version is revealed and released much later. So, hopefully Codemasters does have something in store for Switch players, but we’ll have to wait and see if anything actually does come to fruition.

In the meantime, here’s the trailer:
