Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection dev video talks how to revive a classic

Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection dev video #1 Capcom Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection

Japanese third-party support for Nintendo Switch has been awesome, and Capcom especially is delivering a fan-pleasing mix of new and old between exclusives(?) Monster Hunter Rise and Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection, the latter of which arrives on Feb. 25. Capcom has released a dev video for Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection featuring Chief Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and Producer Peter Fabiano discussing various aspects of the game, including how they are approaching bringing back a classic franchise.

The developers had a desire to revive the franchise after seeing how more games in recent years have been adopting the same style of platforming action. Tokuro Fujiwara, the original series director and now CEO of Whoopee Camp, is working with Capcom to deliver a faithful and engaging game.

As for how Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection will actually play, Fabiano explained the following, among other things:

With Zone 1, you’ll see the stages are homages to both Ghosts ‘n Goblins as well as Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. You’ll see a lot of the changes that we made we kept true to the originals. For example, the forest, in the original. As you play through it, it felt like a forest. With this one, we wanted to bring it that one step further. Add that level of platforming and the interactions with the forest itself as well.

Frankly, the animation looks pretty stilted to me, but that seems to be a conscious artistic choice as opposed to a quality issue. Either way, I’ll never complain about Capcom digging into its past to create something new, and this Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection dev video is a nice teaser for what’s coming next month.
