Gene Simmons likes Obstagoon, will not sue Pokémon over KISS likeness

KISS Gene Simmons likes Obstagoon of Pokémon Sword and Shield

Let me start this article off by immediately making clear that the title is a joke: Gene Simmons has never talked about suing The Pokémon Company. However, Simmons has been knowing for taking aggressive legal action against anyone who might be encroaching upon his likeness or any of the works of his band, KISS. He sent the legendary King Diamond a cease-and-desist to get him to change his makeup, if that tells you anything. So it’s all the more miraculous that Gene Simmons is cool with Obstagoon in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

As previously reported, Galarian Zigzagoon, Linoone, and newcomer Obstagoon have a distinct black-and-white look. The face pattern and the general attitude create a KISS-like impression, coincidentally or otherwise. Newsweek talked to Simmons about the likeness, to which he responded positively: “Pokémon has been a part of our household for decades, ever since our kids first discovered them. And to see Pokémon pay homage to KISS is flattering. It’s a KISS world. You’re all just living in it!”

Ending on a bit of self-promotion is the most Gene Simmons thing that Gene Simmons could possibly do. But self-promotion and hyper-capitalistic tendencies are his charm, after all! Now let’s finish this night in style by rocking and rolling for all of it!
