GameStop Adds Major Fuel to the Nintendo Direct Rumor Fire

The Nintendo fan community is currently engulfed in flames of excitement over the heavily rumored Nintendo Direct. Yes, me talking about flames is in direct relation to Nintendo’s very cheeky trolling over on Twitter. While the Big N is currently keeping its lips sealed on the presentation that’s apparently coming soon, GameStop has seemed to let slip something quite major.

GameStop has added to the Direct rumor in two ways. The first one is that the official GameStop Twitter account actually tweeted about the Nintendo Direct on January 10th. It actually mentioned that the presentation would be happening in 45 minutes. This turned out to be an error on their part as the tweet was removed almost as quickly as it appeared. There are two theories for as to how this happened: either it was an incorrectly scheduled for automatic posting or someone at GameStop just wanted to join in on Nintendo’s comical but cruel trolling. Nintendo Everything was able to take a screenshot before the tweet was pulled down:

The second part of this strange situation is that apparently six unnamed Switch SKUs have been added to GameStop’s database. An image was posted to Reddit by user Teugenehint which shows a list of titles including these unnamed SKUs. If it’s legitimate, then these SKUs seem to serve as placeholders for impending announcements from the Direct that’s so conveniently MIA.

So, it looks like GameStop either knows what’s up, or this is all just a very elaborate prank. One thing is for sure, if this Nintendo Direct doesn’t air by the end of today (January 11th), then it won’t be happening for the rest of the week. All Nintendo Directs have been released only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Since today is Thursday, then it’s either going to be dropped out of nowhere or we’ll have to go through another week of this madness.
