G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout is a team-based shooter, not a drinking game

G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout release date October 13 Nintendo Switch PlayStation 4 Xbox One PC GameMill Entertainment Hasbro team-based third-person shooter Snake Eyes

Hasbro and publisher GameMill Entertainment have revealed G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout, a new team-based third-person shooter coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 13. It will offer 12 characters among Team Joe and Team Cobra, including Duke, Snake Eyes, Cobra Commander, Destro, Roadblock, and Storm Shadow. The game’s story is inspired by ’80s G.I. Joe comic books and will feature the familiar U.S.S. Flagg and Cobra Headquarters.

There will be a typical multiplayer experience featuring at least Capture the Flag, Assault, and King of the Hill, and each character will have unique abilities and customizable weapons and appearance. But notably, G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout also offers an 18-mission campaign that can be played solo or in local co-op.

As the game’s trailer showcases, the graphics and aesthetic look surprisingly solid for a licensed video game announced out of the blue. At the least, G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout looks a little more put together than Transformers Battlegrounds, another Hasbro property.

That’s all we know about G.I. Joe: Operation Blackout for now. GameMill and Hasbro seem to be cooking up an earnest AA effort here, so hopefully it will satisfy longtime fans of the franchise. Let us know what you think of this new Switch game so far.
