The 20th Century Studios film Free Guy was supposed to release last year, but the pandemic steamrolled right over that proposition. Now, it is finally releasing on August 13, and the premise is that Ryan Reynolds plays a video game NPC that gains sentience and inadvertently becomes critical to a plot to save the game world from shutdown. It could potentially be a lot of fun (or a cringeworthy mess, but let’s stay positive!). And to build up hype with precisely the sort of audience that might be interested in it, Free Guy has gotten a bunch of silly video game parody posters, with Ryan Reynolds mimicking the likes of Super Mario and Mega Man. Suffice to say, these posters rule.

In order, these Free Guy video game posters parody Super Mario 64, Street Fighter II, Doom, Grand Theft Auto, Minecraft, Among Us, Animal Crossing, and Mega Man. They’re all pretty fantastic in their own ways, though we especially like the Mega Man and Street Fighter II parody posters. I would not be surprised if Ryan Reynolds’ marketing agency, Maximum Effort Marketing, is responsible for these (though the agency was technically acquired by MNTN back in June, and Reynolds is now MNTN’s chief creative officer).
Which of these Free Guy video game parody posters is your favorite?
