Fairy Tale RPG Koei Tecmo Gust Lucy new details video

EGX Rezzed is one of the biggest gaming events in London, hosting plenty of exclusive gameplay reveals and insightful interviews on upcoming releases. During a livestream at the latest EGX Rezzed, JRPG fans were treated to a 20-minute gameplay reveal of upcoming anime RPG Fairy Tail. Additionally, Nintendo Everything interviewed the game’s producer, so we have plenty of new info to munch on.

There was a lot to see in this debut footage of the Koei Tecmo-produced RPG adaptation of the massive manga and anime franchise of the same name. Eagle-eyed fans of the series are sure to notice a bunch of familiar faces, especially when it comes to the roster of playable characters. Combat lets you bring up to five party members into battle, and the front line of the party in this demo featured dragon slayer Wendy Marvell and accomplished mage Lucy Heartfilia. The party also included series protagonist Natsu Dragneel, fierce sword-wielder Erza Scarlet, and capable ice mage Gray Fullbuster.

Each of the characters has a variety of impressive magic abilities they can bust out in battle that are lifted directly from the show, like Erza activating Heaven’s Wheel or Lucy summoning everyone’s favorite lil’ snowman Plue (or Rave, if you know him from the other works of Fairy Tail author Hiro Mashima). You can even chain these attacks together in a single turn using a special Chain Attack function in battle.

Speaking of Hiro Mashima, the Fairy Tail creator himself is on board to help the development team out with crafting the story and world of the debut console game. The story of this game is set to adapt three of the more popular arcs of the original story: the Tenrou Island arc, the Grand Magic Games arc, and then the Tartaros arc. Interestingly, these three arcs take place in the middle of the story, meaning that the game is set to skip the beginning of the original story.

Fairy Tail will arrive on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC sometime in 2020.
