In a move that is bound to inspire some powerful feelings among the fan base, Rocket League developer Psyonix has been bought by Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite. In the blog post announcement, Psyonix promises that “nothing will change at all” about how they go about developing Rocket League and its ongoing updates. However, long-term, they plan to bring the game to the Epic Store and “to leverage our new relationship to grow the game in ways we couldn’t do on our own before.”
Psyonix goes on to say this about the effect that Epic Games buying them will have on Rocket League esports:
We think this is a great move for the Rocket League Esports ecosystem because it significantly increases our potential reach and resources, just like it does for the game itself. We really do believe that you’ll find our future in esports to be very exciting — especially in the near future, where on June 21-23 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) finals will end our 7th season with a bang!
Some people love Epic Games for giving the world Fortnite and Gears of War. Others despise them and especially the Epic Store, which they have accused of having invasive data policies. Let us know where you stand on this shocking announcement!
