Bless me bagpipes: Newly discovered NES DuckTales prototype song charms with 8-bit melody

DuckTales prototype song

DuckTales is one of the best Disney games on the NES. It’s so good, WayForward remade it as DuckTales Remastered for the Wii U, complete with a lot of the original voice actors from the show. The original still holds a special place in many gamers’ hearts, though. So much so, a DuckTales prototype song was recently unearthed and posted to YouTube.

This DuckTales prototype song is super catchy

Take a listen to the unused track below:

That’s a certified banger. The team at Capcom knew how to squeeze the most out of the NES’ audio capabilities.

I’m certainly curious as to why this wasn’t used for the level select screen. Especially since THIS repetitive noise was employed instead:

It wears out its welcome in mere seconds. It’s kind of impressive, really.

In a perfect world, WayForward will re-release DuckTales Remastered on Switch and use the prototype tune for the stage select theme. If that AND the DuckTales Quackshots project come to fruition, I can die a happy man.

Enthusiasts, what do you think of the DuckTales prototype song? Did it have you swiveling in your computer chair like me? Let us know in the comment section down below. And if you’re curious about all the changes between the prototype game and the final release, check out this webpage.
