The Switch is getting some Final Fantasy love this year. One of the titles hitting Nintendo’s latest is Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, releasing April 16. Gamers like yours truly were left hoping the double pack would release in two cartridges. An official listing, however, shows Final Fantasy X-2 as being a download code only offering.
Thank goodness for extra storage
According to Square Enix’s European website, the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster does not contain two game cards. Final Fantasy X will be available in cartridge form. Final Fantasy X-2, on the other hand, must be downloaded through a voucher code. Therefore, Switch players the world over will most likely need to purchase a microSD card for extra storage in order to play Yuna’s hot pants adventure.
This news isn’t surprising at all. Switch double pack releases have a history of having one-half of their titles as a download only. For instance, Bayonetta 1 & 2, Megaman Legacy Collection 1 & 2, Resident Evil Revelations Collection, and a few others all require more space for a download. Are the tiny Switch cartridges too expensive to mass produce?
Any guesses as to why Switch’s two packs don’t have multiple cartridges? How many of you purchased a microSD card for the Switch out of necessity? Let us know your theories below!
