Devil May Cry 5 on Nintendo Switch is potentially on the table

Devil May Cry 5 - DMC 5 - Itsuno - Nintendo Switch

That’s right, Devil May Cry 5 could be slashin’ it’s way over to the Nintendo Switch if recent hope sparked by the game’s director carries any weight. In an interview with German magazine M!, Hideaki Itsuno, director of Devil May Cry 5, stated that there is a possibility for the title to be ported to the Nintendo Switch. In order for the port to receive any consideration, however, there is a catch. It’s pretty cut and dry. Here is the translation of Itsuno’s quote to the magazine as provided by Nintendo Life:

“If Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen sells well on Switch, then we might consider porting DMC 5.”

There it is. Vote with your wallet. If you want to see DMC 5 on Switch, then consider picking up Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. Hopefully, however, you only purchase Dragon’s Dogma because you’re actually interested in it, at the very least. The ambiguous possibility that DMC 5 could join the Switch console library shouldn’t be reason enough to fork over your hard earned cash.

This isn’t the first time Itsuno has flirted with the idea of bringing the DMC series to the Nintendo Switch. Previously, he commented on his desire to possibly bring the other DMC titles to the hybrid console. So, maybe there’s really something to this.

Why not have a Switch version on launch?

Nintendo Life provided more insight into the article. Itsuno actually explained why DMC 5 never made it to the Switch from the get-go. They lacked the tools necessary to develop simultaneously for the Switch.

We started the development of DMC 5, while we didn’t have the dev-kits [for] the Switch. Because of that we concentrated on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC version.”

The idea that a Switch version could have been in the cards from the beginning is intriguing. It’s nice to see big developers giving the Switch a chance for their games. After all, the Nintendo Switch was a hot-ticket item last year. It certainly has a big enough base to justify third-party development!
