Developers Can Port Unreal Engine 4 Onto Any Console They Want

If you kept it here on Nintendo Enthusiast, you got an accurate interpretation of the news on the subject of Unreal Engine 4.

The saga began when Epic told Videogamer 4 months ago that Unreal Engine 4 games could be ported to Wii U as said engine was \”supremely scalable.\” The general consensus thereafter was that Wii U was in the clear for ability to possess next-generation games being developed on Epic’s next-generation engine.

GDC 2013 came around and Epic decided to release a new trailer showcasing the power and potential of UE4. A kotaku journalist asked if Unreal Engine 4 would work on Nintendo’s latest home console where Rein remarked \”Hahaha no.\” sending out a wave of laughter throughout the room. Technically though, this wasn\’t true, as he went on to clarify, and clarified further today.

Epic Games VP Mark Rein: \”You heard the stupid gaffe yesterday about the Wii U,\” he said. \”If someone wants to take Unreal Engine 4 and ship a game on Wii U, they can! If they wanna ship an Unreal Engine 4 game on Xbox 360, they could make it happen.\” While that game might not look as pretty as it would on a \”true\” next-gen console, the new engine is scalable to a variety of platforms, including mobile.\”

And there you have it, we\’re back to the drawing boards.
