Detective Pikachu graphic novel will electrify your summer

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu graphic novel Legenday Comics summer 2019

Even the most lapsed Pokémon fans are keeping an eager eye on Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, which releases in theaters on May 10. But if you need even more shock and mystery in your life, then you’re in luck, because there will be a Detective Pikachu graphic novel adaptation arriving from Legendary Comics this summer. Writer Brian Buccellato and artist Nelson Dániel will be the ones making this project a reality.

Legendary Comics is actually the comic book arm of Legendary Entertainment, which is one of the production companies behind the film, so it’s easy to see how this comic was born. They similarly produced a Warcraft comic when the Warcraft film released back in 2016.

Personally, for as much as I love comics, I’ve never understood the appeal of comic book adaptations of movies. Novel adaptations make sense since they can include additional character nuance or what have you, but a comic book is just forced to become a truncated version of a movie. A graphic novel adaptation of a movie would have to bring some seriously stellar art to get my attention, so good luck, Nelson Dániel.
