Publisher Leonardo Interactive and developer Invader Studios have shared a Steam Next Fest teaser trailer for Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle, a story-driven survival horror game prequel to Daymare: 1998, which reveals a PC demo will be available for the game between February 21 and February 28. Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle is planned to launch sometime in 2022 on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, so everyone will be able to get in on the terror eventually.
You play as Special Agent Dalila Reyes, a former government spy who is now part of the fanciful-sounding H.A.D.E.S. (Hexacore Advanced Division for Extraction and Search), and she is exploring the “labyrinthine depths” of an intensely advanced experimental research center somewhere in the US. The game’s major feature is a crowd control mechanic involving the Frost Grip, which Leonardo Interactive boasts is “one of the most innovative and original weapons ever.” Wow. PR doesn’t actually explain what it is, but the weapon will involve liquid nitrogen.
Beyond that, there will be secret documents and hidden items to find, as well as various environmental puzzles to solve, and it all sounds very Resident Evil. That is fitting, since the first game began life as a fan project Resident Evil 2 remake. This is not to be mistaken with Capcom’s own, official Resident Evil 2 remake. In any case, the Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle Steam Next Fest teaser trailer doesn’t actually reveal much at all — hence teaser — but it’s good for building hype for the impending release of the PC demo.
