Cyberpunk 2077 developer talks viability of a Switch port

At PAX Australia, GameSpot talked to CD Projekt Red’s John Mamais, head of the Krakow office who was a producer on The Witcher 2 and an executive producer of The Witcher 3. Various facets of CDPR’s massive upcoming project, Cyberpunk 2077, were discussed, including the possibility of a Nintendo Switch port. Mamais gave a vague answer that is both hopeful and dismissive at the same time:

“Who would have thought a game like The Witcher 3 would be possible on Switch, so who knows? I guess we’ll see, if we decide to put it on the Switch, if we can do it. Probably not.”

Cyberpunk 2077 just might be the most beautiful game to hit consoles when it releases for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2020. It uses a proprietary REDengine 4 game engine, and I would imagine the game would have to take a major hit to its visuals to come to Switch. But that would be just the beginning. Getting a game of this allegedly enormous size to fit on a Switch cart, run at a reasonable frame rate, and process everything that’s going on would be quite the undertaking.

Like Larian Studios has said about Baldur’s Gate 3, it would likely take a “Switch Pro” or some sort of hardware successor to get Cyberpunk 2077 on a Nintendo console, unless CD Projekt Red learned some literal magic with its time on The Witcher.
