Cuphead is one of 2019’s top five most downloaded Switch games

Cuphead 2 may be in development at StudioMDHR

Nintendo recently released an official list of 2019’s most downloaded Switch games. Unsurprisingly, free-to-play hit Fortnite owns the top spot, while Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Minecraft respectively hold second and third place. Check out the full top twenty-five below, which features a healthy mix of indie games, third party titles, and Nintendo’s own first-party catalog. Especially of note is that indie superstars Cuphead and Untitled Goose Game appear quite early in the list, rounding out the top five.

1. Fortnite
2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
3. Minecraft
4. Cuphead
5. Untitled Goose Game
6. Pokémon Sword
7. Fire Emblem: Three Houses
8. NBA 2K19
9. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
10. Dragon Ball FighterZ
11. Pokémon Shield
12. Super Mario Maker 2
13. Overcooked! 2
14. Hollow Knight
15. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
16. Luigi’s Mansion 3
17. Cadence of Hyrule
18. Super Mario Party
19. Final Fantasy VII
20. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
21. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
22. Undertale
23. Crypt of the NecroDancer
24. Warframe
25. Mortal Kombat 11

Aside from Cuphead and Untitled Goose Game enjoying top five presence, this list also suggests a successful year for Fire Emblem: Three Houses and that Pokémon Sword outsold Pokémon Shield by a decent bit. Furthermore, 2017’s instant classics, Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, are not on the list, which is a little bit surprising even considering the early releases.

How many of these games did you download this year? Which were your favorites? Any that you really want to try? I’m extremely tempted to grab Cuphead and Untitled Goose Game, personally. As for my favorite, while I have played several of the games on this list, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is my preferred title.

Are you surprised to see Cuphead up there with FortniteSmash Bros., and other heavy hitters? Any shocking omissions (I wish Crash Team Racing had a bit more love)? Sound off in the comments!
