Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend brings 3 Game Boy classics to Switch today

Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend release date Square Enix Nintendo Switch Game Boy available now

Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend was another one of those out-of-the-blue Partner Showcase announcements a few months back. The collection brings three Final Fantasy classics from Game Boy to Nintendo Switch, and it’s out today on the eShop for the SaGa series’s 30th anniversary in North America.

The Final Fantasy Legend, Final Fantasy Legend II, and Final Fantasy Legend III make their way over to the platform. The Final Fantasy Legend was the first Game Boy RPG and Square game to sell more than one million units, which the sequel then built on. The third entry introduced a new character leveling system, wrapped up in a story that traveled time.

This is the first complete port of the three games that kicked off the SaGa series. We can’t think of a better platform to replay them on either. Square Enix has added some expected quality-of-life improvements too. The collection features new enhancements like high-speed mode, adjustable screen magnification, eight in-game wallpapers, a choice of Japanese or English text, and a special anniversary song composed by Kenji Ito. As expected, it’s compatible across all Switch modes, although handheld is a natural fit here. If you fancy going full-nostalgia, detaching the Joy-Con and rotating the screen in handheld mode offers up that old-aspect-ratio Game Boy experience with on-screen buttons.

Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend is out now on Switch for $19.99.
